Director James Cameron’s latest film, Avatar, topped the box office for the fourth time this past weekend and it has already become the second-most successful film ever worldwide.  Part of the reason people go out to see the movie, which takes place on a fictional moon called Pandora, is because the audience gets immersed in the Pandora’s environment.  Zoe Saldana plays “Neytiri” (Pron: NEIGH-tier-e), one of Pandora’s inhabitants, a member of a species known as the Navi.  She explained her goal when making the flick.

Zoe’s comments after the jump:

Zoe “I really wanted to, along with Jim and all the creative artists that he had conceiving the Navi and everything, I really wanted the Navi to come to life so that the audience can have that adventure of sitting back and going, ‘Oh my god, they are real!’”

So how did Zoe feel a few years back when she was asked to be in the movie?

Zoe “You know, there’s a lot of excitement and anxiety too.  You also have those moments where you kind of have an out of body experience because it is James Cameron calling you on your cell phone and asking you if you can be in his movie.  Those are just things that you have on your bucket list of things that you think will never realize or manifest themselves.”

Avatar is still in theaters.  If you head out to see it, you might help it to become the biggest movie of all time.  It would take the title from another James Cameron film, Titanic.

Here’s a new trailer for the movie Avatar. This flick is directed by James Cameron, starring Zoe Saldana, Giovanni Ribisi, Michelle Rodriguez and a bunch of other people.

Zoe Saldana, who played Uhura in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek just confirmed that she will start filming for the sequel to the si-fi thriller shortly. She’s also staying busy by promoting her new movie Avatar (Directed by: James Cameron) which drops December 18th.

Zoe: Sometimes I almost feel like a three month experience for something that will last forever is not fair for the actor. Because what you guys get to watch, that’s for you. The part of shooting the movie, that’s for me. I take all those memories and that experience with me. And to get to go back to Star Trek and see Chris’ baby blue eyes and get to kiss Spock, Zachory and to work with J.J. I couldn’t have been in a better environment from the writers to the producers to everyone. To get to relive that experience in another adventure in space… I’m not looking forward to the dress though. It just means I have to hit the gym two months before we start shooting, so I’m not looking forward to that.
